Known as the capital of Madhesh, or Mithila, Province No. 2 is located in Nepal's Southeastern Terai region. The smallest province, Province No. 2, is 9661 km2 in area, but according to the 2011 census, it is the most densely populated province.

Bordered by Koshi River and Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve on the East, and Chitwan National Park and Parsa National Park on the west, Province No. 2 has eight districts with a majority of people speaking Maithili and Bhojpuri. Rajbiraj, Janakpur, Birjung (the biggest city), etc. are some of the popular cities.

Birthplace of Goddess Sita, Janakpur is the capital city and the major touristic attraction of Province No. 2. Thousands of Pilgrims and wanderers come to Janakpurdham every year from all over the world to witness the holy temple and its unique structures. Capital of Videha Dynasty, Janakpur is famous for its Mithila Paintings, which have an international market mostly drawn by women representing their unique cultures.

Gadhimai Temple – also known as wish-fulfilling temple, in Parsa District, welcomes millions of visitors from India every year during the Gadhimai Fair. Having three domestic airports, Province No. 2 is rich in art, culture, and unique food cuisines.

Spring and Fall are perfect seasons to travel Province No. 2. August is one of the peak months for tourists to make accommodations expensive, but other times the prices are reasonable. Though rich in pilgrims and travelers, Province No. 2 still lacks better accommodations and hotels for tourists and is struggling with the management and cleanliness of public places.

Dominated by the Hindu religion, most people do not wear modern clothes, and there is no nightlife besides the Janaki temple area. It might be challenging to find liquor shops as well. One can take Mithila Painting back from Province No. 2 as a souvenir.

GETTING AROUND IN PROVINCE2

Province No. 2 is the second province of Nepal that lies in the east. Bordered by India in the south, Province No. 1 in the east, and Bagmati Province to the north, Province no. 2, has eight districts, all of which lie in the Terai region. Famous for Janakpurdham and Parsa National Park, the province is accessible via airways and roadways. The roads to the area are quite right, and with several airports, the province can be reached through domestic flights in different locations. Being a province in the Terai region, the summer is quite hot, and winter is freezing. Nepali, Bhojpuri, Maithili, and Hindi languages are commonly spoken in the region. The culture and lifestyle of the locals resemble Indians in the border area.
