Mardi Base Camp

Mardi Himal Base Camp, located east of Annapurna Base Camp, is a raw gem, with virgin trails, and newly explored trekking destinations of Gandaki Province. Lying at an altitude of 4,450 m from sea level, Mardi Himal Base Camp is a 4 to 5 days trek package from Pokhara. The specialty of Mardi Himal Base Camp is the outstanding views of the nearest legendary Annapurna and the fishtail mountain – Machhapuchhre.

 

The trail is full of suspense and thrills with varying landscapes, structures, snow-covered path, enchanted forest, an alley of rhododendrons above 3,300 m. The entire trail is interesting, that brings pristine views of the mountains and add pleasure to the eyes. 

 

The trek begins from Dhampus, with upcoming destinations as Low Camp (2,950 m), Forest Camp (3,300 m), High Camp (3,580 m), and ultimately Base Camp. The entire trail has signs one trees and stones that show the trek's right path, have proper hotels and homestays at mentioned destinations and is perfect for an average trekker.

 

Mardi Himal Base Camp is just 4 hours trek from High Camp, and you can return to Pokhara via Sidhing instead of returning via the same route. The trail from High Camp to Sidhing is a little risky, full of forest, waterfalls, and have lack of hotels and homestays. From Sidhing, you can find a local bus or private jeep that takes you to Pokhara in 3 to 4 hours.

 

The best time to trek to Mardi Himal -Base Camp is mid of September to November. It is the peak time, and the trails are crowded with tourists, so pre-booking of the hotel is recommended. The second-best time to trek this region is March to May. Due to heavy snowfall, the trail is mostly closed from December to February.

 

Trekkers usually combine this trek with other popular treks like Ghandruk, Ghorepani - Poonhill, Panchase, etc. as all of these lies in the same region. But if you are short in time, for 4 to 5 days trek, Mardi Himal Base Camp alone will be perfect.

 

The risk or threat the trekker can experience in this trek is altitude sickness. Despite signs of the right trek, it is preferred to take a guide along with you. If you have heavy luggage, you can also hire porters. Carry enough energy bar, food, and water, and medicines for altitude sickness, cramps, vomiting, etc. Early booking for hotels, tour packages, porters, and guides is recommended for a risk-free and comfortable trekking experience.
