Chisapani Trail

Chisapani – Nagarkot hike, one of the most popular hikes near Kathmandu Valley, is a two-day-long hike that lets you explore stunning views of the countryside and vibrant off-road hike experience. The trail provides beautiful views of the mountains, untouched wildlife, and unique landscape. Either take a public vehicle or book a cab, you can reach the place within 45 minutes of drive from the capital.

 

Sundarijal, the starting point of the trail, is away from the crowd of people, and full of breathtaking views. Comparatively, the hike is secure and diverse. You can find water pipes along the trail from Sundarijal. What makes this trail exciting and unique is Shivapuri Watershed and Wildlife Reserve, full of diverse wildlife. You can see Ganesh Himal, Mount. Dorje Lakpa, Mount. Gaurishankhar, Mount. Manaslu, and some other mountains on your way that become more visible from the top of Shivapuri.

 

With an average hiking speed, you reach to Chisapani from Sundarijal within 5 to 6 hours. Your first-night stay is at Chisapani with great accommodations like resort, hotels, and homestays, ranging from expensive to local. Gurung, Sherpa, and Brahmins being the major ethnic groups of Chisapani, its specialty is a diverse cultural experience, unique regional Nepali cuisines, and comfortable and sound stay.

 

If you want to witness the splendid view of the sunrise and mountains, hike early in the morning from Chisapani on the next day to Nagarkot that lies at the height of 2111 m above sea level. After four hours of the hike from Nagarkot, you can reach Changu Narayan Temple, which has a historic cultural and religious significance. After touring the area, and having lunch, you can return to Kathmandu on a cab or taxi available easily there. 

 

The trail welcomes you every month of the year, but to experience the most amazing sights, February to June and September to November are the perfect months. To witness snowy trails, and make the hike more challenging, travel during December and January. Hiking in July and August can be challenging due to rain and poor visibility.
