Upper Dolpo

Upper Dolpo Trek, one of the thrilling and challenging Western trekking regions that take you to the most remote and isolated areas, lies in the mid-west of Nepal between Dhaulagiri Mountain Range and Tibetan Plateau in Karnali Province.

 

Upper Dolpo trail, around 32-day trek, takes you to mountain territory from the foothills of the giant Himalayas and high passes through the actual virgin Tibetan region that is yet to be explored. You can take a flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and then to Jhupal, which is the starting point of the trek that takes you through Lower Dolpo. Full of lush tropical forests, and beautiful valleys, the trail has different traditional settlements.  

 

The beauty of this trail is encountering Shey Phoksundo Lake – the deepest lake of Nepal. You come across Ringmo Village, a remote village rich in culture. A few passes like Nagdaol La. Shey Gompa, a Buddhist monastery, also falls on the trail and takes you to witness outstanding views of Mount Dhaulagiri and Mount Kanjiroba.

 

Less populated and having Tibetan inhabitants called Drokpas, the Upper Dolpo region is reached after many challenges. You will fall in love with nature throughout your trail as there are different traditional villages, passes, mountain views, Kai Gandaki River, and unique communities of people.

 

Conquering Upper Dolpo means you have witnessed most of the gems of Western Nepal, including Shey Phoksundo Lake, and Jomsom Village. Take this trekking challenge, if you are looking for the ultimate adventure and trekking experience.
