Kalinchowk

Kalinchowk, a 2-3 days short trek in Dolakha District, 132 km away from the valley, lies at an elevation of 3,790 m from the sea level. The star attraction of Kalinchowk is the panoramic view of the mountains like Ganesh Himal, Langtang Himal, Shisha Pangma, Dorje Lakpa, Jugal Himal, Gauri Shankar, and the Kathmandu Valley is also quite clear from here if the clouds are not covering the sky.

One of the pilgrimage sites for Hindus and Buddhists, Kalinchowk Bhagwati, lies at the top of the hill. The area has unexplored cultures and lifestyles, with diverse ethnic groups living in peace and harmony, welcoming pilgrims and wanderers with broad smiles on their faces.

Kalinchowk’s weather is perfect every season for travelers and is easily accessible from Kathmandu. You can catch a local bus, or even hire a private cab, and reach to Charikot, which is 150 km away from Kathmandu, within 4 hours.

Witnessing several river streams, hills, mountains, and feeling the cool breeze of wind, the bus ride is also enjoyable. People usually stop at Khare Dhunga for snacks and to breathe fresh air while enjoying a panoramic view of the mountains.

With a small settlement of newly opened accommodations, Kuri Village is a 5 to 6 hours hike from Charikot. The trail is full of beautiful forests with diverse wildlife and vegetation. The village is filled with varieties of Rhododendrons like Sunapte, and Bell.

Besides monsoon, the gravel road can also take you to Kuri from Charikot. Kuri Village lies right below Kalinchowk Hill. It is recommended that you stay at Kuri Village, and on the following morning, make it to Kalinchowk hill so that you do not miss the beautiful sunrise.

Kalinchowk Bhagawati, a Hindu’s Goddess, is worshipped by pilgrims, and during Janai Purnima (a Hindu’s festival), the temple is flooded with thousands of devotees. The Kalinchowk Hill is getting more popularity after the cable car service got launched in November 2018, letting pilgrims and tourists reach the Kalinchowk Bhagwati Temple from Kuri Village via cable car, adding more thrill on their trip.
