Sagarmatha National Park, one of the UNESCO’s Natural World Heritage Sites, is located at the highest altitude of the world and is home to three of the world’s highest mountains: Everest, Lhotse, and Cho Oyu. One of the star attractions of Province 1, Sagarmatha National Park, has several peaks above 6000 m. Lying in Solukhumbu District, this park encompasses a total area of 1,148 km2 and ranges between the elevation of 2,845 m to Everest’s summit.

Having rugged terrain, deep gorges, outstanding glaciers, massive rocks, and fascinating landscape, Sagarmatha National Park boasts more than 118 species with some endangered animal species like Snow Leopard, Red Panda, Musk Deer, and Himalayan Wolves. For more than 1000 rare and endangered bird species, Sagarmatha National Park is coined as one of the most important bird areas by BirdLife International. Some pheasant types like Crimson Horned and Impeyan can be spotted on the trail. Spotting animals like Himalayan Tahr, Ghoral Serow, and Himalayan Black Bear is common as they dominate the region. Rhododendrons, Silver Fir, Birch, and Juniper Trees are some popular floras one gets to witness in this region.

The word Sagarmatha comes from Sanskrit, meaning – Peak of Heaven. Sagarmatha is popularly known as Chomolungma, meaning – Goddess of the Valley. During Spring Season, the region lying between 2,000 m and 3,500 m is magical with a combination of different colors of blooming flowers. But the best time to plan a trip to Sagarmatha National Park is on Autumn months – October & November and on Spring months – March, April, & May.
