Mount Saipal

Mount Saipal, the second-highest mountain of western Nepal, lies in the north-west of Sudurpaschim Province and stands at an elevation of 7,031 m from sea level. Mount Saipal Base Camp trek is one of the exciting off-the-beaten-track treks full of natural beauty rewards with a unique landscape.

The spectacular views of mountains like Saipal, Api Himal (7,132m), Mt. Thado Dhunga Tuppa (5368m), Mt. Nandadevi (7817m), Rajamba (6537m) and other peaks are the star attraction of the trail.  Perfect for sightseeing and birdwatching, the trail takes you through Seti River Valley and beautiful Bajhang District. You will come across beautiful valleys, passes, gorges, waterfalls, unique landscapes, flora, and fauna along with amazing views of the raw and wild nature.

Chhetri, Brahmin, Mahara, Bohora, Thekare, Jhakari, Lohar, and the nomad community of Raute are the ethnic groups found in the region, who have diverse lifestyles cultures that are different from the people living in other places of Nepal.

The trek can be as long as 24 days and is not for an ordinary trekker as the route is quite complicated. Silgadhi is the start of the trek. You can reach Silgadhi through Dhangadhi via Khaptad National Park, which shall add more adventures to the trek. Dhangadhi is accessible from every major city of Nepal. From Kathmandu, you can either take a direct flight to Dhangadhi Airport from Tribhuvan International Airport or take a bus. To make this trek shorter, you can take a trip to Bajhang Airport in Chainpur instead of Dhangadhi.

The trek via Simikot will require a special permit. The best time to trek this region is between mid of October to end of November, the festive months of Nepal, and the harvest has cleared fields to camp. The trek is quite challenging because it is less popular among tourists, is raw and unexplored. There are no facilities for lodging, and the trekkers have to be self-sufficient with tents and other logistics.

Walk Through the Himalayas recommends you do not attempt the solo trek to this region. It is better to take a local and experienced guide along with you with porters. Carry a first-aid kit, emergency phone numbers, and maps along with other stuff.
