Badimalika, one of the newly explored trekking destinations in Triveni Municipality of Bajura District of Sudurpaschim Province, is a package of beautiful landscape and breathtaking panoramic views of the mountains. Located at the top of a hill at an elevation of 4,200 m from sea level, Badimalika is one of the major Hindu temples dedicated to Goddess Bhagwati.
Thousands of locals and tourists from India come to the temple during festivals, and even other times of the year as the temple is over throughout the year. Culturally rich and diverse, the area is festive with different dance forms like Deuda, Bhuwo, Hudkeuli, Thadi, etc. where locals were traditional costumes, play unique musical instruments, and perform a fascinating dance.
The temple is famous for a festival - Malika Chaturdashi when the temple is flooded with pilgrims. Devotees also celebrate Janai Purnima in Badimalika, which falls in August. The remote location of the place and challenges one faces to reach there makes the temple an exciting place to visit.
Though the pilgrimage is famous, the trail does not have many accommodation places or teahouses, so it is recommended to be self-sufficient. The path is full of greenery with outstanding landscapes and views. One can witness different flora species and come across some domestic animals, grazing peacefully on the open lands. The winter brings snowfall and blocks the trail. Otherwise, the path is safe and comfortable for average trekkers.
To reach the temple, one has to trek for 2 to 3 days from Martadi – headquarter of Bajura District. You can either take a bus up to Bamka Bazaar and begin trekking either from Maure Kailashmandu route or Chhatara route or from the Martadi route. To reach Martadi, either take a bus from Dhangadhi or Nepalgunj. The local bus services are available from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj or direct to Dhangadhi. You can also take a domestic flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj or Dhangadhi, or head to Bajura airport from Nepalgunj.
