Dhankuta is a small city, located at an altitude of 1,150 m from the sea level. The town is near Dharan and is reached through Bhedetar, descending to Tamumr Koshi. The administrative headquarter of Eastern Nepal, Dhankuta, is a predominantly Newari town with a small bazaar.
Most of the city is quiet and picturesque with old homes lined with whitewash, tile, and carved in Newari style. Ethnic groups like Rai, Magar, Brahmin, and Chhetri live in the town with peace and harmony.
The area in the town is perfect for walking and feeling good. Women embroider beautiful shawls and weave dhaka that is popular in different places in Nepal. Another popular item of Dhankuta is a special kind of biscuit, with a name as Dhankuta Biscuit. It is popular in a different part of Eastern Nepal.
With several places to visit in Dhankuta, some famous Hindu pilgrims are Jalpadevi Temple (Chintang Devi Temple), Nishan Bhagawati Temple, and Shiva Panchavan (Bisranti Temple). The star attraction of Dhankuta is its green forests and hills, which are full of locals and tourists who come for refreshment and escape from the city pollution.

Jalpadevi Temple (Chintang Devi Temple)

Dhoje Hill
Dhoje Danda or Dhoje Hill is a popular touristic destination in Dhankuta that lies 13 km away from Bhedetar. The hill is situated at an altitude of 2,047 m from sea level. The star attraction of the hill is the view one gets from its top. All sixteen districts of Eastern Nepal are seen from the point along with the famous river - Tamar. It is one of a hiking destination from Bhedetar, Dharan, and areas near it.
The Banyan Tree
Believed as the largest tree of Asia, the Banyan Tree, situated in Dhankuta district in Dadha Bazaar, is a must-visit region of Dhankuta. According to locals, the tree is 250 years old, and its perimeter of the base is around 17 m. The tree has attracted several people.
Rajarani
Rajarani is a popular picnic spot in Dhankuta, which has a humanmade lake, situated on the top of a hill. The place receives several local tourists during spring, autumn, and winter seasons. It is also famous for bike riders, mountain bikers, and hikers. The site can be reached within 1.5 hours of drive from Bhedetar.
Hile and Pakhribas
Hile and Pakhribas are the cool places of the East, famous for hangout and night stay refreshment. The city is renowned for a local beverage brewed millet called Tonga, which is available in a particular container with a built-in straw. The taste of Tongba is unique and attracts locals from different parts of Eastern Nepal to Hile.
Pakhribas is famous for its small tea garden. It has a pond, and the surrounding of the lake is covered with terraced tea plants. The climate of Hile and Pakhribas is perfect even during summer when the other cities burn with heat. The dominant ethnic groups of the area are Limbu, Tamang, and Sherpa. The place is also famous for Hile Gomba.
