Karnali bridge

Karnali, the single-pillar bridge, is 500 meters long and is the second type in Asia. Lying in Mahendra Highway at Chisapani in Karnali Province, which borders Kailali and Bardiya, the Karnali bridge crosses Karnali River. Constructed with the help of the Japanese Government, this bridge is the center attraction of the Karnali region, making it one of the most famous bridges of Nepal.

 

Attracting 2000 to 2500 daily tourists, this asymmetric, cable-stayed bridge is 500 km away from Kathmandu – the country’s capital and 86 km from the closest airport in Dhangadhi. Having unique design and appearance, the bridge attracts domestic and international visitors and stands out as one of the famous bridges in Nepal.

 

For tourists who visit Chisapani, the nearest town from the bridge, the bridge acts as its entrance. Fish cuisines being the delicacies of the area. Some several hotels and restaurants sell some fantastic fresh fish food items.

 

The area is dominated by Tharu communities, which are rich in cultures, and are friendly. Though the bridge is unique and is the only of its kind in Nepal, it receives lesser tourists than other tourist destinations in Nepal. If you are traveling near the region, like Bardia National Park, or Shey Phoksundo Lake, you should not miss this aesthetically pleasing bridge.
