Sinja Valley

Sinja Valley, one of the famous and beautiful touristic destinations of Karnali Province, that carries outstanding history, lies in a beautiful district - Jumla. Isolated in the lap of western mountains, Sinja Valley falls under the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

 

The ancient capital of the Khasa Kingdom of the 12th and 14th centuries, which existed until the 18th century, Sinja Valley, holds several historical significance. Surkhet Valley, Kankre Bihar, and Dullu have similar kind of connection with the Khasa Kingdom. Some pieces of evidence from Pancha Dewal, Stone Columns, and ruins of the palaces discovered in this area clear things about the existence of ancient structures of great importance. Ancient temples like Kanak Sundari, Tripura Sundari, and old settlements around the valley were discovered during national excavations.

 

The valley is recognized as the place of origin of the Nepali language. The cliffs in and around Dullu were discovered with Devanagari script engraved from the 13th century, which are claimed as the earliest inscriptions of Devnagari Lipi found in Nepal to date.

 

You can reach Sinja Valley through regular flights from Kathmandu to Jumla Airport or via bus. Tourists usually visit Sinja Valley from their trekking trails like Rara National Park.
