Christmas Day

Christmas Day in Nepal is celebrated on 25th December depending upon the solar calendar. It is one of the imported traditions from the West but is well celebrated with traditional ways as people in the West.

 

Christians in Nepal throw Christmas parties and welcome friends and families for delightful dinner and a good time. They exchange gifts, decorate houses with lights, and the Christmas tree is the center of attraction. Decorating items like bells, stars, reindeer, and miniatures make the house and Christmas tree look pretty.

 

The shopping for the festival begins at the start of the month and the celebration ends only after the English New Year Day. On Christmas Eve, the clubs, bars, and restaurants have an offer on dinner and they play music until midnight to welcome the festival. Different events are organized from the eve day and the streets of popular cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara are full of Christmas vibes with Santa Claus figures, Christmas trees, and decorations.

 

One does not have to be Christian to celebrate Christmas Day in Nepal. Everyone can be part of Christmas parties and especially teenagers and youth groups of the Nepalese community enjoy the festival outdoors in restaurants and clubs with friends. The day is charming and brings friends and families together. The Government declares public holidays on this day and institutions are shutdown.

 

On the day of Christmas, Christians and even non-Christians visit Churches, which are decorated with lights and flowers. People make a pray, light a candle, and eat delicious sweets to cherish the day. In the evening, people become part of parties and enjoy till midnight.

 

Though Nepal is dominated by Hinduism and Buddhism, it is a secular country, and every festival has its own space and charm here. No matter which religion you belong to, you have full rights to be part of any festival in Nepal.
