Butwal

Butwal, a relatively large town of area 106 km2, lies in Rupandehi District of Province No. 5. Located at a distance of 267 km west from Kathmandu – the country’s capital, Butwal, is 30 km north of Gautam Buddha Airport of Bhairahwa. One of the most popular trading cities, Butwal, is also commonly known as Batauli Bazaar.

 

Though Butwal is not a tourist city, tourists prefer to stay here when they are traveling to Province No. 5 because of the attractive facilities it provides. Located 40 km away from Lumbini – the Mecca for Buddhists, and the origin of Buddhism, Butwal is 15 km away from Devdaha – the maternal home of Buddha with ruins of ancient artifacts. The historically significant city, Butwal, is the city where the Gurkha forces defeated the English at the Jitgadhi Fort during Anglo-Nepal War. Manimukunda Sen Park reveals that the ancient victory, commonly known as Phoolbari, is a must-visit park with a zoo and enormous space for a picnic and other events. Other popular parks like Hill Park and Gol Park are perfect for evening walks, and to take a break from busy and noisy streets.
